Notes for Mama (Words from Dad Watching the Kids) – Pt. 2

We’ve made it to the weekend!

It is Saturday. May 13! The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima!

Today was another productive day. I awoke with energy and thought, “Let us honor our Blessed Mother today! I’ll teach the kids about the ocean and what is on the other side of the Atlantic… Portugal!”

Well… when I tried to explain it, our four year old said, “Is it Mexico? Where mommy is at? Mommy and Mommy Mary.” Well… I tried. Maybe we’ll revisit the topic of Europe tomorrow after we look at pictures of the Atlantic and then different Portuguese cultural images… or something.

Today was a productive day. Called in some reinforcements. My mom and step-dad came into town. We were crafty today, we played in some dirt, took a few wagon rides, knocked out a few small to-do items and even made a gate for our deck! Oh yea – it is so much more relaxing now to sit on the deck with a closed gate knowing that the kids or the dog will not go down the steps or leave without me knowing when I am around. My favorite moment was the careless laughter and smiles from the kids when they were popping bubbles from the bubble wand that grandma was using in the wind. So simple, yet so mesmerizing.

Today’s goals:

  • Honor our Blessed Mother today for Fatima. Teach the kids about geography.
  • Build a gate.
  • Ensure we are all drinking enough water.

Today’s reality:

  • The kids know there is a place called Fatima. We’ll work more on this tomorrow.
  • We built a gate! I am so excited to show it to you.
  • The kids and I, and their grandparents, enjoyed a beautiful Saturday.
  • Both kids napped and had much more juice compared to water. But healthy overall. Vitamins in that juice!

Notes for Mama:

Eloise still loves her black dress shoes… those are the only shoes she wants to wear.

I walked out of the bathroom today, and right there watching the door from our bed was the dog… he figured out how to get on our bed.

Bubbles have become only an outside toy. The simplicity of a bubble wand is bewildering, yet the joy it can bring an entire community is special. This was a highlight, and a very in-the-moment, well, moment. Since that moment, I’m going to try my hardest to live this way – in the moment – and overjoyed by the simple awe that is the world around us.

We miss you dearly. Only one more week and we’ll be picking you up at the airport! One more week. An entire week. We will be okay. Not a problem… plenty of projects. Plenty of sunshine coming.

More to come tomorrow.

Forever Yours,

Ethan
